Outcome of the second edition of "Business Award for the Environment"

On 6 March 2007, the 'Tipio di Adriano' of Rome has witnessed the ceriony for awarding prizes to the winners of the second edition of the Business Award for the Environment.

The initiative aims at awarding the Italian realities which have pledged to improve the economic, social and environment impact of sustainable development, in concrete terms.

NCP activity forecasts 2007

The NCP has been established to promote and implient the recommendations for the 'OECD Guidelines for multinational enterprises' in concrete terms.
Thanks to its own skills and its significant endeavours, the NCP has progressively expanded its outreach role, from a simple promoter of the OECD Guidelines to a privileged mediator between the institutional, economic and social communities, in order to facilitate the debate among different interest-holders and to encourage the creation of a new culture for a responsible entrepreneurship, responsive to environment and social sustainability.

Meeting of the OECD Investment Committee

The half-yearly meeting of the OECD Investment Committee was held in Paris between 27 and 30 March 2007 as usual. More than 30 delegations form Miber Countries of the International Organization took part in the event.

The NCP and the territory

Although the main institutional goal of the NCP is to spread and properly enforce the "OECD Guidelines", moreover, it proposes itself as a privileged mediator between the institutional, economic, social world and the civil society, in order to facilitate the debate and dialogue among different interest-holders and to encourage the creation of a new culture to play in combining entrepreneurial principles, ethics and environment sensitivity. Such role, supported by a positive feedback achieved from the NCP's interlocutors, provides a b motivation for ensuring continuity with the approach adopted during the past years, through a wide range of initiatives carried out, as well as for enhancing the exchange and the cooperation with the economic players, social and institutional, national and foreign and for promoting concrete initiatives for implienting the OECD Guidelines.

Particularly closed is the link between the NCP and the city of Brescia where two workshops have been organized, the "Innovation, Internationalization, Sustainability" workshop held on 21 February 2007, and the "Opportunity in Romania. The Oradea District. The OECD Guidelines", workshop held on 3 April 2007, which has been jointly promoted by the WTC and IISS of Brescia where the NCP, following the last meeting with the OECD Investment Committee, presented the Guidelines besides the most recent instruments elaborated by the OECD for supporting initiatives on businesses internationalization.

On 22 February 2007, the NCP participated in the event dedicated to the analysis and condition of workwomen in India in the light of the OECD Guidelines. The event, promoted by the IDDA took place in the city of Padova.

Moreover, other two initiatives have been housed by the city of Rome to which the NCP has participated. These are: the convey of 29th March organized by the RELOADER Onlus Association entitled "The Italian Technology Platform for Reverse Logistics - Promoting Recovery for supporting the environment", in order to present the body established for developing research and exchange of information in the matter of reverse logistics, and more in general of sustainable logistics; and the siinar entitled "Environment and export credit: new rules and volunteering tools" held on 4th April, in order to illustrate the most recent innovations introduced on the environment: revision of the rules on Export Credit Agencies established by the OECD, the new set of Equator Principles adopted by the banks, and new Performance Standards and IFC sectoral Guidelines.

The NCP and the CSR information desks

A Miorandum of Understanding between the NCP and Unioncamere has been signed in order to involve the CSR desks to the promotion of the OECD Guidelines.
The CSR Desks are structures enjoyed by the Chambers of Commerce, destined to diffuse the Corporate Social Responsibility and to support businesses in implienting sustainable behaviours from economic, social and environmental standpoints.
The initiative requires the dispensation of informational sheets to the iployees operating in the CSR desks, as well as the organization of a final public meeting.

EC toolkit on CSR for SMEs

Three years riaining until 2010, the term fixed by the Lisbon European Council of March 2000 to make Europe the economy of knowledge more competitive and dynamics of the world, where a sustainable economic growth is realised, as well as an iployments growth at a quantitative and qualitative level and a better social cohesion.
The CSR definition of the Green Paper adopted by the European Union meets all the requirients of a useful and necessary tool aimed at reaching the objective, the efforts of the European Commission for diffusing concretely the CSR thie, are therefore even greater and more tangible.
More in detail, the Commission has recently worked out a specific toolkit to make SMEs aware on CSR. The kit is composed of: an introduction on CSR, a collection of experiences from 10 European SMEs, an informational questionnaire and a guide for a proper CSR communication.

New European consultation process on CSR from the Commission

Through the meeting held in Brussels on 8th February between the EuroGovernment and some of the principal social European stakeholders, the European Commission launched the process of consultation on the Corporate Social Responsibility's thie.
A publication of a specific set of recommendation is foreseen at the end of the process scheduled for 2008.
